Suspected DUI driver causes 3-car head-on crash in Snohomish, injuring 2

A suspected DUI driver caused a three-car head-on crash on SR 9 in Snohomish over the weekend, sending two people to the hospital.

At approximately 7:24 p.m. on Saturday, Snohomish County Fire District 4 crews responded to the collision in Snohomish, according to KIRO 7.

The driver at fault was a 36-year-old from Shelton, who was driving northbound on SR 9 when the vehicle crossed the center line and hit two other vehicles.

The causing vehicle rolled over and came to rest upside down. One of the other cars involved ended up in a ditch, while the other stopped on the shoulder.

Two of the vehicles had substantial front-end damage, and one driver had to be extricated from a vehicle, according to Snohomish County Fire District 4. In total, it took 17 minutes for the driver to be cut from the vehicle using the jaws of life.

Two drivers were transported to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.

One driver was seriously injured, another had life-threatening injuries, and the third driver was uninjured, according to Washington State Patrol.

It is believed that alcohol was a factor in the collision.

The causing driver is facing charges, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo obtained by KIRO 7.

The crash remains under investigation.
