A 20-year-old, seven-time convicted felon was arrested with an active escape warrant in the Northgate neighborhood on Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 1 p.m., Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a possible domestic violence disturbance in the 300 block of N.E. Northgate Way, SPD confirmed.

Officers identified the 20-year-old suspect as an escapee from the Twin Rivers Community Facility, who “eloped” during a routine appointment at a local hospital on Jan. 16. The suspect was considered “armed and dangerous,” according to the police report.

Washington’s Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) worked with hospital staff to review security footage and confirmed that the suspect left the hospital and entered a vehicle. After law enforcement was notified, a warrant was issued.

“When a young person elopes from a community facility or parole, the warrant is issued out of Green Hill. It does not mean they escaped from Green Hill,” DCYF stated in response to initial reports of the suspect escaping from Green Hill School.

SPD later found the suspect walking near 5th Avenue N.E. and N.E. 115th Street, where he was arrested.

Escapee found with modified firearm, more than $2K cash

Recovered during the arrest was a concealed firearm with an auto sear or “switch” that modifies the weapon to fire automatically. The suspect’s seven felonies include several robberies, prohibiting him from possessing firearms.

SPD also recovered another auto switch, $2,028 in cash, and a black face mask, which is commonly used to conceal a person’s identity.

While the suspect was in custody, he was being uncooperative and intentionally hurt himself as he was seated in the back of an SPD patrol car. The Seattle Fire Department responded and treated the suspect for his injuries.

Medics later transported the suspect to Harborview Medical Center, where he was provided treatment.

After he was discharged from the hospital, SPD booked the suspect into the King County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful firearms due to the auto switch, and his escape warrant. SPD also requested additional charges for resisting arrest.

Officers met with the domestic violence victim, but she refused to talk to the police and did not report any crimes.

Gun Violence Reduction Unit detectives have been assigned to the case.
