A children’s soccer field in Magnolia was vandalized early Sunday morning, sustaining damage so severe that the field is unusable for the remainder of the current season.

Video from a witness captured a suspect driving a truck in circles across the field at approximately 1 a.m., although the license plate was not visible on the video, according to KIRO 7.

Stephanie Skinner, president of the Magnolia Soccer Club, stated that if it were a teenager playing a prank, it was not funny for hundreds of children who can no longer play soccer games on the field.

“Is this a new, 16-17-year-old driver kiddo whose prefrontal cortex isn’t well developed and is just getting up to a prank?” Skinner told KIRO 7. “If it’s older, then it’s someone who was just out to be destructive. I don’t know which is worse, to be honest. This might have just seemed funny in the moment to you, but there are actual kids that are being deprived of a fun opportunity with friends.”

Magnolia soccer field vandalism could have been prevented

Skinner revealed that measures to protect the field were already in place; however, the metal bollard separating a driveway leading into the field was not in place on Sunday.

The bollard is now back in its rightful place, but Skinner claimed, “It is a week too late.”

Skinner believes that the field would not be repaired until spring, which would put the soccer field out of commission through the winter.
