A woman is in custody after a domestic violence incident turned into an officer-involved shooting in Seattle.

The shooting occurred in the 900 block of Golf Drive S. in Beacon Hill, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) reported Friday, around 12:30 p.m.

Police responded to an apartment building after a man called 911 around 8 a.m. to report a domestic violence assault, according to an SPD blotter post.

When police arrived, they spoke with a man who was cut during the assault. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Officers tried to take the woman suspect into custody, but she barricaded herself inside the apartment. Officers obtained a warrant to enter the apartment.

At some point, an officer fired their weapon, hitting and injuring the woman. The woman injured the same officer before she was taken into custody, according to SPD.

SPD said the woman is being treated for her injuries.

Resident says they don’t want to live there anymore after shooting

Resident Blake Allen lives two floors below where the incident took place.

“Me and my son woke up, and I was trying to get him ready for school, and we saw all the police cars outside,” Allen told KIRO Newsradio. “Then a bunch more police cars and a bunch more ambulances and a bunch more fire trucks started showing up, and they kept telling me that I can’t go back into my apartment.”

Allen has been in the building since January of 2025, and said she doesn’t want to live there anymore.

“I do really feel like this area should be safer by a lot. I feel like we should have police cars here all the time,” she said. “I’ve seen people doing drugs at the bus stops. I’ve seen people with heroin needles in their ears, like it’s nothing.”

Interim Seattle Police Chief Andre Sayles responded to the scene to brief reporters. He was asked about concerns raised by neighbors like Allen, who want more of a police presence in their neighborhoods.

“We take a look at our staffing, and we put them in appropriate spots,” Sayles said. “That’s what we can continue to do.”

The department is now subject to an independent investigation per Washington law.
