A Shoreline teen pleaded not guilty Wednesday to killing a 15-year-old Bellevue High School freshman in June.

King County Prosecutors charged Kamario Onacki, 17, with shooting and killing Azjanae Brooks.

Bellevue teen’s body found in Shoreline apartment

Brooks was reported missing in Snoqualmie. Her body was found three days later in Onacki’s family’s Shoreline apartment.

“The defendant is accused of not only brutally beating and killing a 15-year-old girl, but also, within days, assaulting another female victim,” Casey McNerthney, a spokesperson for the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, said.

Onacki is charged with one count of murder with a firearm enhancement, one count of human trafficking for trying to recruit Brooks into the sex trade, and one count of assault. Bail is set at $5 million.

“When you see the added allegation that he was attempting to sexually exploit the victim before her death, the reasons for that high bail amount are more apparent,” McNerthney explained.

Onacki is currently being held in secure detention at the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center. However, he will be tried in adult court.
