Beyond warm and fuzzy

I thought the take-home line in Romney’s speech was the line that came right after he made his promises about creating jobs and not raising taxes on the middle class. He paused, and said:

“President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans and to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family,” said Romney.

In 20 seconds he nailed the big difference between Democrats and Republicans; the reason conservative talk radio has been so much more successful than progressive talk radio.

Democrats are out to save the world, but Republicans are out to protect you from it, saved or not.

And those video clips of the five Romney boys growing up — the grainy film that shows them squirting the garden hose at Dad — who’s having too much fun to care that it might ruin the camera — and after the speech, those grandchildren chasing balloons on the stage, it’s the Kennedys! Except, presumably, without the scandals that surface later.

It was was beyond warm and fuzzy. We’re in Camelot territory! Where America is always in first place, you can leave your troubles at the front door, and the gritty realities of the world outside. Dirty Harry can take care of that.

“I’ll start it, you finish it. Go ahead…” Clint Eastwood said.

“Make my day,” the crowd continued.

Ross: Voters weren’t just voting for change, they were voting for a hormone
