Cliff Avril: Can’t play football forever; might as well embrace fame

Cliff Avril might not be as instantly recognizable as Russell Wilson or Marshawn Lynch, but the Seahawks defensive lineman tries to be humble about the moments when he causes jaws to drop out in the real world.

“I know one day it’s gonna end,” Avril told KIRO Radio’s Dave Ross. “You can’t play football forever, so you have to appreciate those moments where some people may recognize you and some people may not.”

Avril, spoke to Ross about his 12s for Good campaign, which recognizes and awards fans who are doing great things in the community. Although Avril isn’t the most famous Seahawk &#8212 despite signing a four-year, $28.5 million extension with the team in December &#8212 he enjoys interacting with fans.

“I’m willing to take a picture, sign some things, if I’m not with my family, of course,” he said. “It’s cool to be appreciated, especially around here. Bringing the city a championship and going to Super Bowls and different things like that, people appreciate that around the city, and I’m just happy to be a part of it.”

Avril said he isn’t too keen on Halloween, but Ross noted the 29-year-old could probably have scored some major candy as a trick-or-treater by just wearing his Seahawks jersey and the 2014 Super Bowl ring.

“Yeah,” Avril said. “I probably could.”
