Even your fork is watching

...

It’s tempting to think it’s just a joke.

In fact, The Onion was mocking it: A new fork that vibrates to warn you you’re eating too much. Since The Onion is a satire site you may think they were just making it up.

But the vibrating fork is a real thing.

“It counts the number of times it travels from the plate to your mouth, or, ‘fork servings’ and measures the interval between the servings.”

It’s called the HAPIfork. The prefix “HAPI” is a reference to the fork’s haptic feedback – a fancy way of saying it vibrates.

“If the interval is too short, indicating you are stuffing your face at a record pace, the HAPIfork will gently vibrate, reminding you to slow down.”

The ideal eating pace, by the way, is to spend at least 20 minutes eating, and lift the fork at least 60 times.

But no more than 75.

This joins a number of high tech behavior aids including the apple watch that can alert you by delivering pulses to your wrist, and the new VIVE bracelet that can sense chemicals in human sweat to warn party-goers when they’re too drunk.

This is the new high tech frontier: personal behavior modification.

One day soon, your watch, your bracelet and your fork could gang up on you and just drag you out of the bar and into rehab.

Ross: Voters weren’t just voting for change, they were voting for a hormone
