vice-presidential debates...

The big vice-presidential debate between Tim Kaine and Mike Pence isn’t expected to be very thrilling.

Kaine, the Democratic nominee, will have two goals: Continue to put Donald Trump’s campaign on the defensive by talking about issues such as women and taxes.

Related: How well do you know the VP candidates?

Pence, the Republican nominee, will try to put the Clinton campaign on defensive by bringing up Benghazi, emails, and Clinton foundations.

CBS’s Larry Sabato says don’t expect any fireworks.

“They’re low-key, they’re very substantive,” he said.

But stuff does happen.

Remember in 1984 when George H. W. Bush squared off with Geraldine Ferraro and took the opportunity to do a little mansplaining on foreign policy, before mansplaining was a word? She didn’t take kindly to it.

Then during 1988 election, of course, whee a young Dan Quayle was schooled by Lloyd Bentsen.

And who can forget Sarah Palin and Joe Biden.
