Military analyst: Call a bombing what it is

As authorities become more and more willing to admit what are likely acts of terrorism with a foreign connections, Military Analyst Mike Lyons says everyone should be on the lookout. He also stresses that we should call it what it is — a bombing.

Lyons is adamant that we call the blast that injured 29 in a Manhattan neighborhood “terrorism.” He says when someone places a bomb in a manner that could kill indiscriminately, it is terrorism.

“We still don’t know the motive, but we’ve got to call it what it is,” he said.

Police capture man sought in New York-area bombings

In addition to the blast that injured 29 people in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood on Saturday, an unexploded pressure cooker bomb was found blocks away, and a pipe bomb exploded in a New Jersey shore town before a charity race. No one was injured there. On Sunday, five explosive devices were discovered in a trash can at an Elizabeth train station. An Afghan immigrant wanted for questioning in the bombings was arrested after a shootout with police on Monday.

In Minnesota, a man was shot and killed after stabbing nine people in a mall.

A day later in Seattle, police shut down several blocks on Capitol Hill after a suspicious package was found in front of the East Precinct. A robot was used to take x-rays of what turned out to be a suitcase before it was removed.

KING 5 reports police arrested a 44-year-old man in relation to the investigation in Capitol Hill. He was booked on charge of “threat to bomb.” However, the Capitol Hill Blog reports the item deemed suspicious was not dangerous.

The bombs in New York and New Jersey, Lyons says, are going to get police and FBI to “literally clear their desks” and try to prevent further attacks.

Lyons says the best way for to prevent further attacks is education.
