Listen to Dave Ross commentary: Now it’s getting serious.

Most of just probably just blow off the warnings about a government shutdown… but in Minnesota, where the state government has actually BEEN shutdown for going on two weeks, we may be seeing a glimpse of a disturbing future:

“The reality of the state shut down across Minnesota, just hit beer drinkers in the beer bottle.”

That’s right! Because the state licenses beer, and because the MillerCoors Brewing company didn’t get the right check to the state in time to renew its brand licenses, and because the state office that receives the check had to close in the meantime, at least 39 brands of beer could be pulled from the shelves:

“Several of their favorite beers, including Coors Light right here, might not be available in the next several days.”

It’s bad enough that there are no jobs, but to have to go through times like these without beer would push Americans to the limit.

So far this is confined to Minnesota. But if a federal default pushes other states over the edge, who knows. One way to avoid this would be to de-regulate alcohol entirely as a precaution so that if the social order breaks down at least we can still get a decent buzz on.

And come to think of it, that might actually be EASIER if the feds shut down, because they wouldn’t have the money to go around raiding medical marijuana dispensaries.

I just want to warn the politicians playing their little default game that between the lousy economy and the Netflix price increase, the villagers out here are this close to reaching for the pitchforks. So you better make sure that we’re either to drunk or too high to remember where we left them.

Ross: Voters weren’t just voting for change, they were voting for a hormone
