I was browsing Twitter – and this tweet popped up from a pleasant-looking gray-haired woman named Carol Pulitzer – a writer of short stories in New Orleans with 288 followers. I’m not one of her followers, but she popped up anyway thanks to Twitter’s dark magic.

And the Tweet caught my attention because it was a sketch for a short story she’s thinking of writing – about a world where abortions aren’t necessary.

Which we all agree would be great!

So, in her fantasy world, when a male turns 14, he would get a notice – like a draft notice – only it’s a notice to report to the vasectomy office where he gets a mandatory vasectomy and his DNA is recorded in case he reverses it without permission.

And – he only gets permission to reverse it when he’s ready to BE A FATHER (she puts that in caps), and signs a formal agreement – which I assume would make him responsible for any offspring. Only then could the vasectomy be legally reversed.

And she concludes by saying “Men, how did that make u feel?”

Well that started quite the debate… and yes, there was more support from women than men – although a few men had no problem – one guy wrote, “fine with me, would have removed a lot of anxiety from my earlier life ….”

Good point – ending Roe complicates life for a lot of men too.

But the mandatory vasectomy idea did cut a little too close for others. They complained about the complications, that reversal is not always possible, and also that for the government to dictate what they a man can do with his body was wrong. Like being forced to get a vaccine or wear a mask.

Which of course is exactly the point Carol Pulitzer was trying to make.

Could it ever actually happen? Well, at last check, there are about 20 million more registered female voters than male voters… and if Roe v Wade does disappear and enough women get really angry – who knows?

But don’t worry guys – Carol says she would grant exceptions. The operation would not be required of young men who could certify that they are gay.
