Stop accusing our president of keeping his promise

President Donald Trump is again upset at the news media, this time because of the coverage of his Friday night executive orders on immigration.

Everybody knows that during the campaign, Donald Trump promised this:

“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what the hell is going on,” he said, referring to himself in the third person.

But as the airport demonstrations began to spread over the weekend, and as we started to hear stories of families being separated and scientists being detained, the president released a statement on Facebook which said:

To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting.

This is not about religion – this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order. We will again be issuing visas to all countries once we are sure we have reviewed and implemented the most secure policies over the next 90 days.

I have tremendous feeling for the people involved in this horrific humanitarian crisis in Syria. My first priority will always be to protect and serve our country, but as President I will find ways to help all those who are suffering.

And Kellyanne Conway reminded us only a tiny number of foreign travelers were affected.

“You’re talking about 325,000 people from overseas came into this country just yesterday through our airports,” Conway said. “You’re talking about 300 and some who have been detained or are prevented from gaining access to an aircraft in their home countries and must stay for now.

“That’s 1 percent. And I think in terms of the upside being greater protection of our borders, of our people, it’s a small price to pay.”

I know we have never before seen a president who wants us to stop leaping to the conclusion that he is keeping one of his bigger promises, but in this case, he wants you to understand, that no he is not keeping his promise here!

Although I will say that if this is the way the rollout goes when he’s not keeping a promise, I’m a little worried about what’s going to happen when he actually does keep a promise.
