Let’s just beta test the tax reform plan before it passes

While the rest of you have been living normal lives, I’ve been listening to the House Ways and Means Committee tax reform debate.

It’s focused on “hard-working American taxpayers.”
The two sides of the committee cannot agree on whether the concept of using a higher standard deduction to replace the long list of specific deductions would help or hurt hard-working Americans. The debate became pretty heated at times.
“You know what, I’m glad this is on TV so that every American can actually see what’s going on here.”
The debate got so bitter, they even invoked divine intervention.
“The gentleman from Connecticut, Mr. Larson, can you lead us now in…”
“Amazing Grace…”
Enough of this!
Of course, no one wants to tax hard-working Americans. Heck, why should hard-working Americans pay taxes at all? Find the lazy ones and make them pay! Unfortunately, they either don’t have money or have so much Congress is afraid to touch it.
But here’s the next best thing — ready? — let’s beta test the tax reform plan before it passes.
We’ve been told that it will fit on a postcard. So send us the postcard, and let us fill it out. Then we don’t have to guess about who wins and loses, we’ll know.
That would take courage, of course.
But if you guys really want to know how this would affect hard-working Americans, let them tell you.
