They never ran out of alcohol

Penn State has suspended the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity whose members are being investigated by State College police for allegedly using two secret Facebook pages to post photos of nude females, some of whom appeared to be sleeping or passed out, as well as posts relating to hazing or drug deals. Another fraternity is in trouble, this time at Penn State where the local chapter of Kappa Delta Rho posted pictures of intoxicated female party guests to a Facebook page.

It was set up as a private page, but it’s reported that 144 past and present frat members had access to it.

CBS’s Vinita Nair talked to a Penn State senior who went to parties at KDR:

“Did the parties ever get out of hand?” she asked.

“Drinking definitely got out of hand,” said one student. “They never really ran out of alcohol, so they were encouraging everyone to drink – whether you seemed like you could handle it or not.”

“Are you angry about it?” asked Nair.

“You’re jeopardizing these girls’ reputations. Also, you’re embarrassing them and their families.”

Of course, the guys didn’t look at it that way. In fact, one frat member told Philadelphia Magazine that the Facebook page was intended as satire of frat parties. The last thing they wanted to do was hurt anyone, so they kept the page private. Like true gentlemen. And he was
serious.

This is not just about the alcohol or even male lust. It’s about kids who are nowhere near grown up enough to be on their own. For some guys, adulthood doesn’t automatically kick in at age 18. But no matter, we call them adults and send them off to a land with approximately zero adult supervision – a place where brains are educated by day, pickled in vodka by night, and then kept in debt for the next 20 years.
