This is how a prime minister says ‘I told you so’

In Britain’s Parliament, it was time to say “I told you so,” after last week’s vote to drop out of the European Union.
“When a tweet can be sent to a young black woman in London which says: ‘Go Home time to make Britain great again … a genie appears to be let out of the bottle,” said one Conservative supporter of the EU.

The implication offended this Labour Party member, prompting her to seek satisfaction from the prime minister:
“Could I ask him also to condemn those people who are almost implying that decent people all over this country who voted to leave the European Union are somehow closet racists,” she said.
Then another EU supporter politely inquired as to when Britain might expect to receive the windfall for the National Health Service promised by the anti-EU campaign.
“I belatedly picked up a leaflet of the Leave campaign, which said that the NHS could get any extra 350 million pounds per week as a result of the vote to leave. Can the prime minister tell us when the NHS can expect to receive that money?”
Prime Minister David Cameron, who, of course, opposed dropping out of the EU, and has announced his resignation — said it isn’t his problem.
“Until we leave the European Union, we will continue with our contributions,” he explained. It won’t be until his successor takes over that people will be told where the money is going, he added.
He didn’t come right out and say, “I told you so,” but BBC’s Mandy Baker put it right.
“He allowed himself a smile as he sat down.”
