Will a recession follow the debt deal?

Listen to Dave’s commentary:Now they tell us
I saw this headline: “Agreement not likely to ease joblessness.”
What? Yes!
It quotes an economist saying that the new debt deal is “pushing the nation toward a new downturn.” The double dip.
We also got another bummer of an economic report. As Economist Nigel Gault describes it:
“Consumer spending has gone absolutely nowhere.”
As for any glimmers of strength:
“There isn’t any. The immediate future looks pretty bleak.”
I also saw a story about how New Balance, the only company still making athletic shoes in America, is wondering whether it can survive a new free trade bill, which is going to open up the market to Vietnamese shoes made by workers who earn LESS than the Chinese!
But wait a minute, the tax cuts are still there. Low taxes are supposed to create jobs! Cutting the federal budget is supposed to unleash private investment! They promised!
The trouble is I can’t find where John Boehner, or Paul Ryan or Eric Cantor or the rest of them spell out WHEN those wonderful things will happen.
In the meantime, the one employer that WAS creating jobs — the federal government — has been forced to stop.
And get this: despite the argument that the debt deal would save our triple-A credit rating — economists say the economy is so sluggish we may lose it anyway!
So now the test begins. Liberals called the deal a Satan sandwich, Conservatives say it’ll be healthy; we’ll see who’s right.
All the life jackets have been handed out, may the best swimmer win.
SO what do you do if you’re unemployed and out of money? I guess you hire a coyote and sneak into a richer country.
Except… there are no richer countries.
Although… I hear there are jobs making shoes in Vietnam.
