Gee Scott: ‘Just follow the rules’ and get a REAL ID

May 5, 2025, 2:00 PM | Updated: 2:05 pm

After nearly 20 years of delays, airports will begin enforcing the REAL ID law on May 7.

Travelers will need a REAL ID-compliant license or an approved alternative, such as a passport, to pass through airport security and enter certain federal facilities. While most travelers already have acceptable identification, the TSA may subject those without a REAL ID to extra screening.

REAL ID deadline means no more excuses for travelers

Gee Scott, co-host of “The Gee and Ursula Show” on KIRO Newsradio, said he has no more sympathy for travelers who ignore the REAL ID deadline.

“Some of you all who love to do your homework at the last minute,” Gee said. “You knew the teacher told you all see all year long when the assignment was due. But no, you want to do it on Sunday night before that Monday is due. just some people who just don’t follow the damn rules either way, right?”

Passports and passport cards are REAL ID-compliant and accepted for airport security. Other valid IDs include Global Entry, NEXUS, FAST, SENTRI, permanent resident cards, Department of Defense IDs, border-crossing cards, and enhanced driver’s licenses issued by some states.
