Niveen Carrero has lived life with one foot in fashion and the other near the water.
Born in Venezuela, the founder of Adicora Swimwear built her company around a memory of home, naming it after the Venezuelan beach that continues to inform her sense of color, ease, and escape.
The designer has called Bellevue home for more than two decades, arriving with little more than ambition and a willingness to start over. After finding her sea legs while working in retail, Carrero decided to build a swimwear company — a surprising decision considering this region’s lack of white-sand beaches.
While most people associate the Pacific Northwest with technology and outdoor activities, Carrero recognized something else: a lot of travelers constantly planning their next getaway. Her brand and her personal style follow the same North Star. It’s thoughtful and built around pieces that feel distinctive rather than trendy.
Mystery Woman
Carrero has an eye for both product and the intention behind design, an approach she also brings to her label and wardrobe. Vintage stores in Seattle’s Capitol Hill, New York, California, and Europe are frequent stops, where she hunts for belts, shoes, and accessories. She gravitates toward separates with unexpected construction and pieces that elevate her outfits without overwhelming the overall look. “I think mystery is sexy,” she said. This philosophy also guides her wardrobe and her work.
The Perfect Fit
Adicora Swimwear may be sold around the world, but its point of view begins in Bellevue. Carrero designs the prints, develops the patterns, and oversees the fit process locally before production in Venezuela. High-quality fabrics are sourced from Peru. She taught herself patternmaking and construction, skills that continue to inform the high standards that she has for each collection. The result: pieces that prioritize longevity and fit, with silhouettes designed to flatter the body rather than simply follow trends. And her customers have noticed. Many return season after season, investing in new styles while continuing to wear pieces purchased years earlier.
