Homage Senior Services Seeking Foster Grandparents

Everett-headquartered Homage Senior Services is seeking adults 55 and up to participate in its Foster Grandparent Program.

The program pairs volunteers ages 55 and older with children at local schools and learning centers who might benefit from individualized attention from an elder. Volunteers spend time one‑on‑one with students to reinforce skills, build confidence, and form meaningful connections, Homage said in a press release of the program’s intentions.

Schools and community partners identify children and match each child individually with a foster grandparent based on their needs. Eligible volunteers may receive a non-taxable AmeriCorps Seniors stipend, mileage reimbursement, and paid holidays. The stipend does not affect eligibility for other government benefits that program participants may receive.

Be 55 years of age or olderCommit to volunteering for at least five hours per weekAttend a monthly two-hour training sessionMeet income eligibility requirements to receive the AmeriCorps Seniors stipendBefore being matched with a child, volunteers complete an application, background check, and 20 hours of orientation and training.
