Alleged mail thief tries to avoid arrest by jumping in Lake Washington

The search for a mail thief on Mercer Island ended with Seattle Police fishing the suspect out of Lake Washington early Thursday morning.
Commander Leslie Burns of Mercer Island Police said a witness called the cops when they saw a man and woman stealing mail from a north end apartment complex.
They caught the woman, but the man gave them the slip.
“He fought with the officers and was able to escape,” said Commander Burns.
“About 45 minutes later, the State Patrol found him walking across the mid-span of the I-90 bridge, and in the process of trying to contact him and take him into custody, he jumped in the lake.”
A woman who was allegedly stealing mail with him was also arrested.
An injured officer is going to be okay.
