Seattle police are investigating a Thursday afternoon collision where a car drove backwards into the entrance of a Chinatown restaurant.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m., when a driver behind the wheel of a Toyota Camry accelerated in reverse into Dim Sum King on the 600 block of South Jackson Street. SPD believes that the driver was “attempting to park the car on South Jackson Street when the Camry went over the sidewalk and into the front of the business.”

SPD is reporting seven people injured in the incident, all of whom were transported to Harborview Medical Center either by themselves or by Seattle Fire Department first responders. Two suffered life-threatening injuries.

A tow truck removed the car from the restaurant while traffic was diverted on South Jackson Street. There doesn’t appear to be any larger-scale structural damage to the building.

The incident is under investigation by SPD detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad.
