Chambers Bay parking tougher than breaking par at US Open

We’re getting the first look at parking around Chambers Bay for the U.S. Open, and it’s not pretty.
Golf lovers attending the tournament in June should plan on not parking anywhere near the course. The City of University Place has adopted new parking rules for the week of the U.S. Open that will ban on-street parking for the streets nearest the course, including for residents. There will be a “no event parking” zone everywhere else.
“The residents can still park (on the street) in the second zone. But we don’t want you coming into University Place and thinking, ‘Hey we’re just going to turn your city streets into parking lots,'” said Seattle City Public Works Director Gary Cooper.
Nearly 4,600 homes in University Place will be impacted by the parking restrictions. People living nearest the course will also have their access restricted to keep the streets open for emergencies, and the shuttles ferrying people to the course.
The United States Golf Association is expected to release its parking and transportation plan in April. An estimated 30,000 people are expected to squeeze into University Place for every day of the week-long tournament.
It’s anticipated all spectators will have to use parking lots miles from the course and take shuttles to the course.
