Citizen tip helps Kent police arrest escaped child rapist

An escaped child rapist is behind bars after police in Kent used a citizen tip to set up a meeting and make the capture.

A man who knows Chris M. Smith saw him featured on a local “Most Wanted” TV show and called police, offering to set up a meeting.

Police agreed but when Smith showed up and saw officers approaching, he ran. A police dog tracked him to a nearby apartment building where he was arrested.

Smith was wanted for escaping from a community custody facility. He was convicted of raping a 7-year-old boy he was babysitting.
