Detectives have a lot of evidence linking a 29-year-old Seattle man to an apparent road rage killing, including shell casings, bullets, and a possible getaway car. What they don’t have is a murder weapon or a motive.

Yancy Noll was shot and killed Aug. 31 as he sat in traffic on 15th Avenue N.E. At the crime scene, investigators found a bullet casing, shattered glass, tire marks and two bullets, one in the dashboard of Noll’s car, another in a home that had shattered a window.

Witnesses, and a tipster who saw a composite sketch of the shooter, led detectives to Dihn Bowman, who lives about half-a-mile away from the scene of the shooting. He’s now charged with first degree murder.

According to charging documents, police watched the house for a week, looking for Bowman and a BMW convertible seen racing from the scene of the shooting. On Sept. 20, a judge granted a search warrant for the garage. Inside, they found a silver BMW M Roadster with fresh paint, glass shards in the carpet, a new window and four new tires. Employees at a Lynnwood tire store remember Bowman buying new tires, even though the existing tires were still good. They told police Bowman insisted on taking the old tires with him.

Inside the house, at 7401 25th Avenue N.E., police turned up what they call a laboratory of guns, including bullet-making equipment, ammunition, rifles, scopes and other gun-related items. But, nothing matching the murder weapon.

In an interview with Bowman’s wife, Jennifer, she mentioned that Dihn Bowman had a shop on Airport Way. Another search warrant got detectives inside, where they found the old BMW tires, paint residue and a slide for a 9 milimeter pistol, hidden in the shop, but no gun that matches the murder weapon.

Police cannot explain a motive for the shooting, except to say they think it was a case of road rage. Bowman is scheduled to enter a plea to first degree murder Oct. 8. If convicted, he faces 25 to 31 years in prison, including a firearm enchancement. He’s held without bail.

Police released video footage shortly after the shooting:
