Family of man injured by deputy seeks more money

The family of a man, shoved to the pavement by a King County Sheriff’s deputy and left paralyzed, says the case is not over, despite a $10 million settlement.
The Seattle Times reports a judge is expected to rule Friday on the family’s claims that the county withheld e-mails and other documents expressing concern about other use-of-force actions by the same deputy, Matthew Paul. The case is before a judge in Pierce County to avoid possible conflict of interest.
The attorney for Christopher Harris says the previously withheld information would have supported a civil rights lawsuit and possible punitive damages. He wants the judge to order King County to pay an added $3.3 million.
Harris was left brain damaged when the deputy chased him and then knocked him into a concrete wall in downtown Seattle, thinking Harris was a suspect in a bar fight.
