Standing water on roads in Western Washington is making the Thursday morning commute especially slow for drivers.

Three crashes on I-5 slowed things down before the bulk of drivers even hit the road.

A crash on southbound I-5 in Everett that occurred around 4:45 a.m. caused a five-mile backup before SR 526.

Multiple crashes were reported on northbound I-5, including one that occurred in Des Moines near SR 516 around 5 a.m., and another crash farther south near Federal Way that caused a nine-mile backup.

At one point during the commute, there was 18 miles of backup from Fife to Southcenter due to the heavy rain, standing water, and the crashes on NB I-5, KIRO Radio’s Chris Sullivan reported.
