A man who allegedly pointed a loaded gun at employees of a Subway restaurant in Kent more than two years ago is in custody after a ‘Flock camera’ helped police track him down, authorities said.

In November 2023, officers responded to reports of gunshots in the parking lot of a Subway restaurant in the 25600 block of 104th Ave S.E. Police said the man pointed a loaded gun at employees during the incident.

“After a 5-hour standoff that involved numerous Kent Officers, K9, Valley SWAT, and Negotiators, he was arrested without further incident,” according to a post on Facebook. “During the standoff, the Subway employees were evacuated from the restaurant. A loaded weapon was recovered. Thankfully, no one was injured.”

The suspect, who at the time was 25 years old and living in Renton, was charged with assault in the first degree and unlawful possession of a firearm in the second degree, the post said.

“He was booked, released on bail at some point, and when he neglected to respond to the courts, they issued a $50,000 warrant for his arrest,” according to the post.

Kent police said that last month, an officer was working an unrelated call on East Hill.

The officer caught a break from an automated license plate reader.

“He received an ALPR Flock Safety Camera hit for a vehicle owned by the 2023 suspect,” the post said. “The registered address for the vehicle was nearby in Kent. He put together some co-workers for an arrest team and tactically approached the residence.”

They arrested the now 27-year-old man in his driveway without incident.

“Police tech solutions are awesome and particularly effective when partnered with carefully planned follow-through,” the post said.
