Last chance to enjoy fall colors

Oct 30, 2013, 11:13 AM | Updated: 1:42 pm

It’s not imagined – the fall colors around the Northwest have been especially spectacular this year.

We’ve had more dry days and cool nights in October, which are ideal conditions for rich, fall colors. The recent fog helps, too.

“The fog is usually a result, in part, of light winds,” says National Weather Service meteorologist Ted Buehner. “We didn’t have anything blowing the leaves off the trees and it gave them a great chance to hang out and show their colors in the last few weeks.”

The beautiful colors won’t last much longer. Buehner says a storm is headed to western Washington this weekend and that should knock most of the leaves off the trees.

Where to see fall colors:

Master gardener Ciscoe Morris has recommended a walk on Seattle University campus.

KIRO Radio’s Don O’Neill says Discovery Park is great for leaves and hanging out on the beach.

Take a trip behind the famous Lake View Cemetery and check out E Interlaken Blvd in Interlake Park.

Highway 2 in the Leavenworth area is beautiful this time of year. The North Cascades Highway is also known for its scenic drive.

Chuckanut Drive in Bellingham also boasts plenty of changing leaves.

KIRO Radio reporter Tim Haeck recommends hiking Granite Mountain trail.
