Man charged with attempted kidnapping at Race for the Cure

Jun 6, 2013, 7:55 AM | Updated: 8:04 am

Charges have now been filed against the man who allegedly tried to snatch a 4-year-old boy during Sunday’s Race for the Cure in Seattle.

Tray Young, 35, is accused of second-degree attempted kidnapping. The Edmonds man is being held in the King County Jail in lieu of $750,000 bail.

According to the probable cause statement, Young grabbed the little boy’s hand, pulling him away from his aunt.

“Family members confronted the man, immediately told him to let go, the suspect did and then he took off running,” said Seattle Police detective Mark Jamieson.

The child’s father and uncle chased after Young and an officer on traffic control a few blocks away, at 4th and Cedar, placed him under arrest.

Police were not able to confirm reports that Young also tried to grab another child that morning.

Young has a long criminal history, mostly involving drugs.

KIRO Radio’s Kim Shepard and Tim Haeck contributed to this report.
