Seattle police arrested a man who barricaded himself in a trailer after allegedly assaulting a University of Washington police officer.
The incident began just before noon Monday after the man began striking a light pole with a baseball bat around 8th Ave. NE and NE Northlake Way in the University District.
When officers went to contact him, he sprayed one of them with pepper spray and ran into the trailer.
“We believe that it’s his residence,” said UW police spokesman Major Steve Rittereiser.
Rittereiser says the officer is fine after getting sprayed.
Several streets in the area were blocked off. Foot traffic on the University Bridge was also stopped.
Seattle police negotiators, alongside a SWAT team, tried throughout the afternoon to talk the man out of his trailer. The suspect demanded to speak with state legislators.
