Man threatens to shoot everyone in Marysville Kmart

A male customer in a Kmart store told an employee Wednesday evening that he had a gun and threatened “to shoot everyone in the store,” Marysville police said. The man then left the store.

No one was hurt.

The man was seen on store surveillance video leaving before officers arrived, police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said in a statement.

The customer was reportedly in the sporting goods section when he overheard an employee make a routine mention of store security.

“He believed that they were mentioning store security in reference to him, and that is what upset him so much that he made the threat,” said Lamoureux.

The mention of store security was not in reference to the man at all, Lamaoureux said.

The man then told the employee “that he had a gun and that he was going to shoot everyone in the store,” the spokesman said.

“He was also heard mumbling as he was walking through the store after that, ‘Why are you going to call store security? I didn’t do anything wrong,’ that type of thing. So we’re under the impression and belief he was agitated by that and made the threats at that point,” said Lamoureux.

Officers have been unable to identify anyone in the store who actually saw the man with a gun or any type of weapon.

Store employees began escorting customers out of the store, as did officers when they arrived about 6 p.m., Lamoureux said.

The man was described as about 6 feet tall and heavy-set, wearing a gray button shirt and a black bandanna around his head. He might have left with a heavy-set blonde woman.

Detectives planned to further review the video in an effort to identify the man.
