Public urination, trespassing source of Seahawk John Moffitt’s legal troubles

Seahawks lineman John Moffitt is a standout both on the field and off, so it’s little wonder he was quickly spotted when he allegedly broke a year-long ban from Bellevue Square and all the surrounding Kemper Freeman properties.

It turns out that’s why he was in court earlier this week on charges of trespassing and obstruction of justice, as we first reported Tuesday when he missed Seahawks OTA (organized team activity).

A Bellevue Police report says Moffitt was banned from Bellevue Square mall and all other Kemper Freeman properties for an unreported incident last year.

The ban took effect Jan. 21, 2012. But Bellevue Square security allegedly spotted him on June 14 urinating near a car parked near Paddy Coyne’s pub, according to an incident report first obtained by SeattlePI.com.

The report says security called police, who spotted Moffitt at the nearby Washington Square condos. An officer yelled at him to stop, but he allegedly looked directly at him then fled into the building.

A security officer positively identified a picture of Moffitt as the same guy he’d seen urinating near the car, and he was ultimately charged with criminal trespass and obstruction, both misdemeanors.

Court records say Moffitt broke the ban again on Aug. 25 when he was spotted at the bar in the Pearl restaurant in Lincoln Square mall in Bellevue – another Kemper Freeman property. Officers escorted him from the bar and arrested him without incident

The report says officers had to use two pairs of handcuffs to manage his 6-foot-4, 319-pound frame.

“Both sets of handcuffs were checked for tightness, and all were double locked,” the report says.

Moffitt hasn’t commented. He’s due back in court June 14 for the alleged incident.
