A Pierce County jury has convicted 21-year-old Tyler Savage of first degree murder in the rape and killing of a developmentally disabled Puyallup teen.

Savage previously admitted killing 16-year-old Kimberly Daily in South Hill Aug. 17, 2010 during an interview with Pierce County sheriff’s detectives. He told investigators the pair met on Facebook, and he choked her to death because the girl wanted to leave.

But Savage changed his story when the trial started, saying instead the girl, who had the mental and emotional capacity of a fourth or fifth-grader, asked him to choke her in a dangerous sex game. He testified during the trial her death was accidental.

Daily’s body was found naked in blackberry bushes several blocks from her home.

Savage will be sentenced Feb. 7. He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
