The victim killed in a drive-by shooting in Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood Sunday was a well-known Cleveland High School student.

The identity of the student has not been released. But Seattle Public Schools spokeswoman Stacy Howard confirmed the male was a student.

“He’s been in the district for most of his life, as far as we know,” Howard said.

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I share the tragic news that one of our students was killed yesterday afternoon in a shooting,” Cleveland principal George Breland said in a statement. “As a community, I know we will come together to not only support out students’ family members, but work to ensure our larger community is a safe place for us to live, learn and work.”

The student was shot just before 4 p.m. Witnesses told police they saw a blue or green Honda speed away from 15th Avenue South and South Forest Street.

The student was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died.

Counselors will be on hand at Cleveland High School through the week, Howard said.

Students were seen comforting each other Monday morning, Howard said.
