Seattle musician vies for city council position

The founding member of “The Long Winters” will be touring Seattle for a different reason.
John Roderick announced his candidacy for position 8 on the Seattle City Council.

The musician, writer and podcaster is highlighting the need for artists and “non-conventional politicians” on the council, according to a statement from www.VoteRoderick.com.
“The music business taught me the power of collaboration, even though my instinct was to fight for my vision against all comers,” Roderick wrote on his website. “It taught me that conventional wisdom is often wrong, and is almost always wrong when confronted with truly new ideas. It taught me that in music, as in politics and government, there is a professional class that handles all the arrangements.”
Roderick supports establishing a municipal entity to provide universal access to broadband Internet, combating gender pay inequity, establishing worker protections such as parental leave, and pursuing transit options that address mobility within Seattle. According to his website, he supports alternative modes of transportation, such as trains, trolleys, buses, and more.
With Seattle’s population on the rise, Roderick wants a comprehensive plan to make Seattle affordable for “regular people.”
Roderick wants to see the laws and cultures of city government “reflect the highest standard of inclusivity.”
Roderick is a commissioner of the Seattle Music Commission.
