Seattle Police Officer’s Guild rejects McGinn, endorses Murray for mayor

Seattle police officers have dealt another blow to Mayor Mike McGinn’s flagging re-election efforts as the Seattle Police Officer’s Guild announced Thursday it was endorsing Senator Ed Murray in the November election.
“Seattle needs a mayor that will stay focused on public safety,” said union president Rich O’Neill in a statement. “Most impressive is Senator Murray’s experience in building bridges between communities and working with different groups as evidenced by his ability to work across the aisle with the State’s Republicans in the legislature. Seattle needs those abilities now more than ever. Many view Seattle government as broken and dysfunctional. SPOG believes that in order to work on all the problems facing the city we need Ed Murray and his ability to unite all of the different groups for the common good.”
Murray has landed a number of key endorsements, including the Seattle firefighters union, the Teamsters, former King County Executive Ron Sims, City Attorney Pete Holmes, and five members of the Seattle City Council.
A recent KING 5 News poll found 52 percent said they’d vote for Murray while just 30 percent favored McGinn. Eighteen percent were undecided.
