Seattle shooting, crash sends 5 people to hospital

Seattle police are investigating an early morning shooting in Belltown that ended with five people taken to the hospital and a gunman in custody.
911 received multiple calls of shots fired near Denny Way and Stewart St. at 1 a.m. Sunday, says Det. Patrick Michaud.
Witnesses reported everyone involved fled the scene, including a group in a distinctive orange car.
Soon after, the Washington State Patrol advised officers they were investigating the crash of an orange Dodge on I-5 at Union St. downtown.
Troopers discovered one of the occupants had suffered several gun shot wounds, and a witness taken by police to the crash scene told officers one of the passengers was a shooter at the original scene, Michaud says.
Officers arrested the 25-year-old suspect and later booked him into the King County Jail.
The 25-year-old shooting victim was transported by medics to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition with gunshot wounds to his leg and stomach. Medics rushed four other occupants of the car to Harborview for treatment of non-life threatening injuries suffered in the crash, Michaud says.
Gang Unit detectives are investigating the shooting, while SPD’s Traffic Collision Investigations squad is investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide/Assault tip line at (206)233-5000.
