Outrage after white Seattle teacher calls police on black 5th-grader for threatening her

Families at Seattle’s Van Asselt Elementary were outraged at a white Seattle teacher after finding out that she called the police on a black fifth grade student.
The incident happened in early May. According to the 27-year-old Seattle teacher, the student threatened to beat her up and made her feel unsafe for the rest of the day.

“I have a student in my class who is age 11 and said that he didn’t care that I was a woman, that he was going to beat the **** out of me,” the teacher told the dispatcher. “And he made an advance on me like he was going to do that.”
The teacher wouldn’t let the student leave class after the incident, and went home early because she didn’t feel safe. According to the teacher, the student is about 4 feet 11 inches.

After the police showed up, the teacher decided not to press charges because she was worried about punishment from the administration, since they were not happy with the manner in which she handled it.
The school district tells The Seattle Times they “resolved” the situation with the student’s family, and plan to administer more de-escalation training at the school.
