A taxi passenger was killed during a head on collision on Highway 99 in Shoreline Thursday morning.

The car struck the taxi head on, shortly before 8 a.m. All lanes of Highway 99 — Aurora Avenue — were shut down around 155th Street in Shoreline during the morning commute for the investigation. The road was reopened at 11:33 a.m.

“We had a vehicle that crossed over the center line,” said Sgt. Ryan Abbott with the King County Sheriff’s Office. “The taxi was struck. The passenger in the taxi died at the scene. Both of the drivers are being transferred to Harborview (Medical Center). Sounds like both of their injuries are serious.”

Investigators believe the driver who crossed over the center lane fell asleep at the wheel.

The passenger, a 62-year-old woman, died. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Two other vehicles were involved in the collision and received minor damage. Neither driver was injured.
