Washington State Patrol Troopers issued DUIs this weekend and used a Taser on a man who refused to pay his ferry fare, but one animal pair proved to be the oddest holiday happening.

State Patrol dispatch received reports of an elk wandering near the roadway on SR 410 near Greenwater.

A trooper sent to the area found a horse and donkey near the highway. Both had walked away from a campsite near Huckleberry Creek, a popular area for horseback riders.

State Patrol was able to reunite the horse, Lillian, and donkey, Domino, with their owner.

Meanwhile, troopers in King County made 49 drunk driving arrests over Memorial Day weekend.

According to Trooper Chris Webb, that is one fewer than last year.

“We also had one felony DUI arrest and a driving while license revoked,” he said. “Those are quality arrests, and they’re getting people off the road that shouldn’t be out there.”

One of those drunk drivers had a blood-alcohol level of 0.32.

On Monday, a man at Colman Dock, who refused to pay his fare, was uncooperative with WSP troopers. After repeat warnings, a trooper deployed his Taser. The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation.
