Thieves steal half-ton propeller slated for Seattle park

Determined thieves made off with a half-ton propeller from Seattle’s University District this week.
The stainless steel propeller was about to be donated for installation in a city park.
The Seattle Parks Department says thieves drove down an alley and managed to get the almost 6-foot diameter stainless steel propeller into a truck, despite the obstacles of a fence and a retaining wall.
Neighbors heard the noise and called police but the thieves were gone when officers arrived.
University of Washington Professor Emeritus and naval architect Philip Thiel helped arrange the donation of the old propeller.
