Golden Tate’s signing with the Detroit Lions has many fans bidding a fond farewell, but none sweeter than the send off the now-former Seahawks receiver is getting from Top Pot Doughnuts.

It’s a fitting, tongue in cheek tribute to Tate, who famously (or infamously) got caught trespassing in a Bellevue Top Pot at 3 a.m. with a friend soon after joining the Seahawks.

The cops were called after employees spotted Tate and friend helping themselves to some of Top Pot’s irresistible maple bars. They may have consumed a few adult beverages as well.

Tate wasn’t arrested, but did get a “trespassing warning” and plenty of embarrassment.

The receiver apologized and eventually partnered with Top Pot. Co-founder Mark Klebeck told TMZ earlier this year Tate learned from the experience and matured into a better player and a better person.

“I think he’s a great guy,” Klebeck says … “He was straight out of college in a big city and made some mistakes, but didn’t hurt anybody.”

“He’s developed into not only a great player on the field but a great personality in the community! We’re proud of Golden Tate,” he said.

So it’s only fitting Klebeck and company would take a little shot at Tate on his way out of town, reminding him to partake in his favorite pastries, but only when Top Pot is actually open.
