Two King County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a shooting at a Woodinville apartment complex Monday afternoon that left the suspect dead and two deputies injured.

As of Monday evening, a spokesperson with the King County Sheriff’s Office told KIRO Radio that both officers had been released from the hospitals.

One deputy was taken to Harborview Medical Center. The other deputy was shot through the arm and taken to Evergreen Health Medical Center.

Sgt. Tim Meyer gave a brief news conference just before 3 p.m. near the scene, in which he said the department’s thoughts and prayers are with the deputies and their families.

Around 12:15 p.m. Monday, Meyer says King County deputies were dispatched to the Beaumont Apartments for a report of some suspicious circumstances, potentially a car prowl. The suspect was carrying some sort of case.

The suspect fired rounds at the two deputies, and both were hit. Meyer said they were in stable condition with injuries that were suspected to be non-life threatening. The two deputies, both males, are believed to have been wearing bulletproof vests.

The deputies returned fire, and the suspect was shot and killed in the confrontation, police sources said.

King County Sheriff’s Office is currently not equipped with any dash or body cameras.

The shooting happened in the 18900 block of 141st Ave Northeast at the Beaumont Apartments. Sgt. Meyer said Woodinville is an “extraordinarily safe community,” and he’s not sure when the last shooting was in that community. Woodinville is a contract city with the sheriff’s office for police services.

On Thursday, the Associated Press reports that the King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man shot and killed as 22-year-old Ronny Dunning, who died from a gunshot wound to the head. Court records show that Dunning’s last known address is in Renton, and public records indicate he may have relatives living in Woodinville. Records also indicate that he struggled with depression, addiction, and other mental health issues.

The investigation is ongoing, led by the Seattle Police Department’s Force Investigation Team.
