Rep. Herrera Beutler censured by Clark County GOP for impeachment vote

Following a decision from Washington Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler to support the impeachment of former President Donald Trump, the Republican Congresswoman’s own constituents in Clark County have voted to censure her.

The censure vote took place Tuesday, according to a report from The Columbian, where members of the Clark County Republican Party (CCRP) vowed to withhold campaign funds from Herrera Beutler until she “explains her actions” regarding her impeachment vote in the House in person.

Among the speakers ahead of the CCRP’s vote was Carolyn Crain, a former volunteer for the congresswoman’s 2010 campaign.

“She violated my trust and it broke my heart,” Crain said Tuesday.

Herrera Beutler has frequently defended her support of Trump’s impeachment over the Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol, arguing “that the riot, taken with the things (Trump) did or didn’t do during the hours of the entire insurrection, tell me what he thought and what he wanted — he didn’t call it off.”

That’s had Republicans at the local level in Washington threatening to run a primary campaign against Herrera Beutler in 2022. Despite that, she has insisted that she is “still the exact same conservative Republican woman” she’s been since she first took office.

“I really am,” she told KTTH’s Jason Rantz Show in February. “To come to this point and have people question that, I’m not going to lie, that’s a huge bummer — I hate that. But I also hope to get the chance over the next year or so to continue to make the case that I’m still the conservative congresswoman I was.”

Herrera Beutler was joined by eight other U.S. House Republicans in voting to impeach the former president, many of whom have faced similar flack in their home districts from the GOP.
