A nurse moving to Alaska for her “dream job” is now stranded in Everett after thieves stole her car and her U-Haul trailer from an Everett hotel.

“Everything that I have, everything is in there,” said a tearful Kristen Shaulis in an interview with KIRO Radio.

Shaulis says she went out to walk her dog Thursday morning at the Best Western Hotel on Pacific Ave. when she discovered the theft.

Surveillance video obtained by Everett Police shows a dark colored Jeep Commander pulling up to the hotel, and a person getting out and driving away with Shaulis’ truck. The U-Haul is a 14-foot box truck with Arizona license plates, pulling a trailer with Virginia plates carrying her black, 1999 Chrysler Town and Country minivan with Illinois license plates.

Shaulis says she is hoping to take a ferry from Bellingham to Ketchikan to get to her new job on a reservation.

“I have two dogs, which I’m not sure how I’m going to manage that. I don’t know how I’m going to get to Bellingham either, but I’ll figure that out somehow.”

Among her belongings, Shaulis says she’s particularly devastated to lose some irreplaceable items, especially things from her mother, who died in 2001.

“I had an album of her funeral and everything that people had written to her in her last week alive and those are really precious memories.”
