Seattle police officer Alexandra Harris was struck and killed on I-5 early Sunday while off-duty, after stopping to assist in an accident. But despite her death being declared by SPD as “in the line of duty,” flags at city hall have yet to be lowered to half-staff, according to SPOG President Mike Solan.

“I’m trying to get flags lowered to half staff, and that is proving to be a battle,” he told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson Show. “I’m not sure why.”

According to Solan, officials at city hall told him that “they’re still working on it,” although given that it’s now been three days since Harris’ death, he believes that lowering the city’s flags is already long overdue.

“In my view, it doesn’t take long to throw an email out there, and people go out to the flag pole and just lower it half-staff,” he noted.

In the meantime, he’s urging people around the region to lower their own flags in honor of Harris.
