An attempted carjacking in Belltown forced a legally armed victim to shoot two suspects Sunday morning.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers responded to a shooting in the 2200 block of 1st Avenue, SPD announced. Officers located a suspect suffering from several gunshot wounds and detained him at the scene. The victim, a licensed gun owner, was also detained for questioning, and the firearm was recovered.

The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) responded to the scene alongside SPD and provided medical aid to the suspect.

The suspect was transported to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) in serious condition, where he remains under armed guard by officers.

Officers revealed that the victim was parked in his sports car along First Avenue when a white sedan approached. The sedan had four masked occupants, who briefly conversed with the victim before two of the men, armed with guns, attempted to steal the vehicle.

The victim fired multiple rounds and struck one of the suspects. Three of the suspects fled the scene in the sedan before officers arrived.

During the SPD investigation, a white sedan dropped off a suspect in serious condition at HMC suffering from a gunshot wound. The white sedan fled from the hospital before officers could arrive. The suspect who was dropped off is also currently being held by armed guards.

Officers and detectives processed the scene, spoke to witnesses, and collected evidence. Officers transported the victim to SPD headquarters to be interviewed by detectives.

SPD noted the investigation has been assigned to the robbery unit and remains active.
