Polls show millions of young people get their news from the Daily Show on Comedy Central, so its only fitting that a writer for the Daily Show should take it upon himself to rewrite the Constitution. This is what Kevin Bleyer has done with a book called Me The People.

Before you cry blasphemy, keep in mind that he’s only doing what the Founders would have wanted.

“For it was Thomas Jefferson, in fact, who, over two centuries ago, said that every Constitution naturally expires after 19 years,” says Kevin.

Among his suggestions: updating the Preamble so it rhymes, and kicking out Rhode island – even though it’s the only thing keeping Massachusetts from coming loose.

But there are limits, as he learned when he sat down for lunch with Justice Antonin Scalia, and brought up the idea of judicial term limits.

“And then finally I turned my attentions to his bread and butter and I started to propose what others, and what I might suggest as changes to the article. I said, ‘You know, many people suggest that lifetime tenure-” and as soon as I said that, he picked up a fork, poked it in my face and said, ‘Don’t you dare. Don’t you dare change lifetime tenure. And if you do – if you do,’ winking, ‘at least grandfather me in because I like my job,'” says Kevin.

Antonin Scalia, by the way, rated 19 times as funny as Justice Ginsberg when you count the number of times the audience laughs during oral arguments. Just don’t get too close to his fork.
