The two words that change everything

The attacks in Charlottesville and Las Vegas are still very puzzling. We’re still not quite sure what to do about them.

But the attack in New York was very quickly diagnosed by a number of commentators because of two words, which Fox claimed to have been the first to report.

RELATED: Truck driver kills 8 on bike path

“Multiple law enforcement sources told me that they did hear, or someone heard this man yell ‘Allahu Akbar’ when he exited that truck.”

For Pam Geller, probably New York’s best-known activist against radical Islam, the suspect’s name provided confirmation.

“And his last name was Sayfullo, which means ‘sword of Allah,'” she said. [Sayfullo is actually his first name]

And just like that, there was no longer any mystery about motive, or how to respond.

“The fight, in many ways, starts overseas,” one Fox commentator said.

“It’s not about the truck, it’s about the ideology…”

That was all on the Hannity broadcast, one of the president’s favorites. Sure enough, at the 30-minute mark, came the tweet: “I have just ordered Homeland Security to step up our already extreme vetting program.”

So there’s a level of vetting so extreme there isn’t even a word for it yet!

Meanwhile, a few blocks away…

“Welcome back to our coverage of the Village Halloween Parade once again!”

The 44th annual West Village Halloween parade went on as usual with crazy costumes, people from all over the world, and a determination not to be intimidated.

“This is New York. I work here every day and I feel safe.”
